Hazardous Chemical Substance Training

Course Description:

This unit standard aims to address the dangers of hazardous substances as well as the health and safety principles to adhere to when handling such substances, storing and transporting hazardous chemical substances.

This course will also include Compatibility Studies, MSDS’s and Emergency Preparedness.

Modules:

Module 1: Monitor, advice and report on the specified requirements with regards to hazardous substances in a work place
Module 2: Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the application of methods in preventing exposure to hazardous chemical substances in a workplace

Learning Outcomes:

Module 1: After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Describe the specified requirements of what hazardous substances are, is appropriate for specific contexts
  • Describe the specified requirements for correctly identifying and dealing with the various hazardous substances is relevant for specified contexts
  • Identify and deal with hazardous substances, including the responsibilities of both employer and employee

Module 2: After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Explain the duties of persons who may be exposed to HCS
  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the application of methods in preventing exposure to hazardous substances in a work place
  • Perform basic control and confinement of hazardous materials operations within the capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available
